When I was a kid, I always believed that little fairies worked in supermarkets when the world slept to stalk it up with delicious fruits, veggies and grains. Sure, my teacher did try to convince me that food actually came from seeds that were painstakingly sown by people but I never bothered to believe. It was only in 3rd standard, when we had a own project to grow a plant of our own did I realize the wonders of nature.
Why am I telling you this story? Well, every night when we sit in front of the TV and enjoy a hearty meal, do we stop to consider, for even a minute, where this food comes from? Do we stop to think that there are thousands of farmers across India who are working hard to ensure that we get our meals on time? Well, I bet you would say no. Have we ever had the opportunity to interact with a son or daughter of the soil who works all day in the heat and cold to produce food? I bet you would say no to this too.
Which is why; Finolex decided to do something about it.
What was their core idea you ask?
Well, Finolex Pipes believes that as a nation, rural or urban, rich or poor, we’re all Indians. As Finolex Pipes works through cross sections throughout India uniting one another, we believe we are divided & this video states as a gentle reminder that by listening, conversing, communicating & forming the pipe line amongst ourselves, we can allow the love to flow.
What they did is they got a few city dwellers to interact with people from rural India to understand their lifestyle, dreams and aspiration. They gave people the opportunity to ask questions and also bust a few myths of rural India. And the result? This wonderful video that they have recently made.
I spent a few minutes watching this video and was truly enthralled. I love the men singing an old melody together and discussing their love for movies. I loved how a young woman told an office goer the typical day in the life of a Sarpanch. Hearing these heartwarming voices made me feel close to these wonderful, warm men and women. In the end, the video also gave an opportunity to the viewers to set up a conversation with someone from rural India and I was absolutely delighted. I sent in my details soon and sure enough within a day I got a reply saying that I would be talking to someone soon. And talk I did! I had a great time interacting with Mr. Kamlesh, a farmer from Gujarat and I am going to devote my next post to our conversation. Stay tuned guys!
We remember the day seven years back when were travelling in a Mumbai local trying hard to come up withe a name for our blog when struck us; Khushboo was always called a Jack of all Trades. The name stuck (with a slight modification, of course) and Minni was born. Six years, over 100 collaboration, lakhs of readers and several awards later; our love for blogging continues to grow. We continue to write on an eclectic range of topics from the funniest autorickshaw signs that we have spotted in Mumbai to how to bathe an elephant. We are true blue Munni of all Trades and we hope to continue on this joyride with our fellow Munnies and Munnas.
