Tips on buying furniture online

From being suspicious of online shopping portals, I have transformed into a savvy online shopper thanks to a list of do’s and don’ts I have created for myself. But personally, in the past I had only shopped for gadgets and clothes online. When it came to buying something as big as furniture, I would turn into a scared kitten again.  That’s until I made my five commandments for shopping for furniture online. I am sure they will prove to be useful for you because nowadays everything should be #JustAClickAway

Know what you are looking for
The most basic thing that people forget while shopping for furniture online is that they forget to write down what exactly they are looking for. In the sea of furniture that is available online (which will completely spoil you for choice by the way) you tend to get lost and make an impulse purchase. That leather sofa that looked gorgeous online would be completely mismatched with your décor. So take a pen and a paper and make a note of what you actually need.
Keep a measuring tape nearby
Before you buy anything, ensure that you take the measurements of your house so that the furniture fits in perfectly. You should have rough dimensions that you are looking for. You wouldn’t want your furniture to be too big or too small, now would you?
Call if you have any doubts
I remember buying a bean bag from an online portal once and thinking, “Arey bean bags ke saath beans free ayega na”. After it arrived, I realized that the company hadn’t send any beans and after I repeatedly contacted the customer service for an update, they finally told me that “The bag is being sold at a ‘special price’ and therefore I will have to buy beans separately.” I spent almost the same amount as I did on the bean bag on the beans and believe me, I was pissed! So, never ever hesitate to call up the customer service executive to clear all the doubts.
Match the colours
While shopping online, you should remember that the colours are actually quite different from what they seem on your computer. So, if you have any doubts, then don’t make a purchase that you will regret.
Always read the fine print!
When it comes to shopping online for furniture, remember to read the fine print carefully. Check their return policy and the number of days you get to return it, too. Some portals also offer free installation, so do take advantage of it.
If you follow my five simple tips, your redecorated house will be #JustAClickAway
